Mission Statement
The Children of Ethiopia Education fund exists to improve the lives and futures of girls in Ethiopia by supporting and partnering with existing private schools to provide quality educational assistance to these students from grades KG-12.
Organization Profile
The Children of Ethiopia Education Fund (COEEF) is dedicated to providing mainly females in Ethiopia from poor situations with an opportunity to attend a private school to receive a quality education she would not otherwise have. By partnering a student with a sponsor, COEEF serves as a bridge to connect both individuals with each other in a meaningful way.
The process for the COEEF girls education program is simple and straightforward:
1) Find individuals who are willing to sponsor a student’s education for a year, and typically on an annual basis until 12th grade graduation. The base sponsorship fee starts at $225/year, which includes tuition, uniform and supplies for one school year for one student. COEEF also has a monthly payment program, where the base sponsorship fee is only $20/month.
2) Find a student near a partner school location who expresses a strong desire to be educated, and would not have the opportunity if it wasn’t for a COEEF sponsor
3) Match a sponsor and student to form a sponsorship
4) Enroll the sponsored student in a nearby private school
5) Correspondence between sponsors and student grows, starting with a “New Student Information Packet” sent, which includes a biography sheet about a student personal to the sponsor, photograph and more information about the COEEF sponsorship. COEEF will send sponsors updated information at least once a year, which may include updated photographs, biography sheets, grade reports, drawings or letters. Correspondence back to the student is recommended.
Those who do not feel they can make a long-term commitment to a child’s education can contribute instead to any of COEEF’s other projects or programs, including our new “Unsponsored Student Fund,” which provides temporary educational assistance to students who are waiting for a sponsor. This is a new fund COEEF set up as it is understand able that some sponsors may be unable to support their student until graduation for personal or economic reasons. Things come up in life, and COEEF wants to be prepared to make this process easy for both the sponsor and student. You could be that temporary relief a student is looking for to continue in her educational process uninterrupted.
Other projects include school building projects, tutoring and our textbook fund. Whatever you choose to dedicate yourself to, rest assured that your involvement will be a source of joy and hope to these girls who will have the opportunity to receive a gift from you that cannot be taken away – an education.
