Mission Statement
The ACLU of Utah is the only organization in our state committed full-time to protecting and expanding all the rights guaranteed in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, through legal advocacy, legislative action and public education.

Organization Profile
The ACLU of Utah stands for bedrock values that define the best of our nation: equality, justice and integrity. After 50 years, we remain the state’s preeminent voice in defense of religious liberty, privacy, and freedom of expression. We champion reproductive freedom and LGBT equality, while standing up for the rights of voters, prisoners and students. We seek to make the promise of fair treatment under the law a reality for all people, regardless of race, gender, economic status, or sexual orientation, and we work to protect individuals from the encroachment of government-sponsored “morality.”

Drawing on past victories and present networks of support, we act quickly and collaboratively to address new and on-going threats to our civil liberties. Our staff works to make positive change for Utah through the channels of: legal advocacy and sometimes litigation; policy advocacy and legislative action; and public education and community partnerships.

Some of our key work at this time includes: a statewide effort to reform Utah’s indigent defense system, so that all people – regardless of income – can realize their Constitutionally-guaranteed right to adequate legal counsel; an educational project, in partnership with multiple community partners, to inform immigrants and the general public about the Constitutional rights that all people in the United States can claim, regardless of citizenship status; and a series of on-going dialogues about how religious liberty and equality for gay and transgender people can be balanced, under the law, for the preservation of our pluralistic society.

Additional Information
Donations can be made to the ACLU of Utah in several ways: sending a check by mail, to 355 N. 300 W., Salt Lake City, UT 84103; with a credit card on-line, at www.acluutah.org, for a one-time donation or even to set up a monthly pledge for the year; or by speaking over the phone with a member of our staff, who will take your credit card information and process your donation, at (801) 521-9862 ext. 100.

You can make a donation to the ACLU of Utah without becoming an ACLU member. When you donate to the ACLU of Utah Foundation, your gift is 100% tax-deductible and supports our educational efforts and legal advocacy. Your gift does not enroll you as a member of the ACLU, or renew your ACLU membership.

When you become an ACLU of Utah member, your membership dues support the ACLU of Utah Union, which is responsible for our lobbying and legislative work. While your membership dues are not tax-deductible, they are critical for supporting our efforts at the Utah State Legislature and the U.S. Congress!
