Mission Statement
Enhancing quality of life through the human-animal bond

Organization Profile
Founded in 1993, Intermountain Therapy Animals (ITA) is one of the largest and most successful groups of its kind. We recruit, screen, train, place and support individual volunteers and their pets to provide animal-assisted therapy services in hospitals, senior care, youth and residential facilities, schools and libraries. We have more than 300 “pet partner” teams serving more than 100 facilities. We also work with healthcare professionals to help them integrate therapy animals into their regimens, and make community and classroom presentations to audiences of all ages.
A jewel in ITA’s crown is the Reading Education Assistance Dogs® (R.E.A.D.®) program, which we started at the City Library in 1999 and which has now spread throughout the world. Children discover the joys of books and reading through the simple but profound experience of reading with a therapy animal.
